A Storied History

A long and rich history exists at Hawk’s View Golf Club stemming all the way back to the 1920’s & 30’s. The site was owned by Helen McDonald who ran a farm that included large storage buildings to store ice that was cut off Lake Geneva. In 1949, Ed Meltzer and his brothers bought the property and they too ran it as a farm.
Mt. Fuji Ski Hill was built in 1960 to compete with Wilmot Mountain and Majestic Hills. Ed ran the ski hill complete with 12 runs, towropes and T-bars until 1970. In the summer months, he had as many as 20,000 people come to concerts to see names like Jerry Lee Lewis, the Buckinghams, The Ides of March and Paul Revere and the Raiders. In 1990, Ed sold the property to the Kennedy Group, which established the Long Horn Ranch until 1994.
In the spring of 1997, Dan and Sue Daniels bought the Long Horn property from the Kennedy’s. They also collaborated on six additional land purchases that make up the 314 acres that Hawk’s View Golf Club encompasses. In 1998, Craig Schreiner, a Golf Course Architect from Kansas City, MO, was retained to begin plans for the 36-hole golf complex. Later that year, Landscapes Unlimited was hired as the General Contractor.

Work on the golf courses began in July of 1999 with the courses completed in October of 2000. Bill Henry, of William Henry & Associates architectural firm in Elkhorn, WI, was hired as the building architect and also helped with the permitting process. Bill maintained the “lodge atmosphere” , while at the same time giving Hawk’s View a new functional building complete with pro shop, locker rooms, offices, indoor banquet space seating 330 people and a beautiful outdoor terrace overlooking the 18th green that seats 500 people.
Hawk’s View Golf Club opened in the summer of 2001; now is recognized as one of the premier golf course facilities in the Midwest. We are the only 5 star rated course in the Lake Geneva area and rated in the top 25 new courses from Golf Magazine. In order to maintain this caliber, we continue to upgrade our facility by enhancing our property and services each and every year. It is our hope that dedication to this purpose will continue to result in increased golf and banquet bookings.

In 2022, the clubhouse was re-painted, the Overlook Terrace had new concrete poured featuring italian slate and wood plank prints, and the wood was stain treated to freshen up the venue. Inside the Red Tail Ballroom has new carpet, wall sconces, chandaliers, and paint as well.
These fresh renovations were made to add a modernized touch for our weddings and events which continue to fill up our calendar each year. Previous renovations included a Bridal Suite expansion for our bridal parties.
Friday Fish Fry continues to be a local favorite and was voted as such in 2021 & 22 in the “Best of Geneva Lake” contest. Tail Feathers Bar & Grille features new bar chairs and 4 televisions to go along side the grand double sided fireplace.
Awarded 4 ½ stars from Golf Digest and voted “Best of Geneva Lake Golf Course” in 2020, 21, & 22, Hawk’s View continues to grow with the community and become an integral component of Lake Geneva history. Above all else, we continue our commitment to excellence.
