Hawk's View Golf Club History

In the 1920's and 1930's, Helen McDonald ran a farm that included large storage buildings to store ice that was cut off Lake Geneva. In 1949, Ed Metzger and his brothers bought the property and they too ran it as a farm. In 1960, Mt. Fuji Ski Hill was built to compete with Wilmot Mountain and Majestic Hills. Ed ran the ski hill complete with 12 runs, towropes and T-bars until 1970. In the summer months, he had as many as 20,000 people come to concerts to see names like Jerry Lee Lewis, the Buckinghams, The Ides of March and Paul Revere and the Raiders. In 1990, Ed sold the property to the Kennedy Group, which established the Long Horn Ranch until 1994.

In the spring of 1997, Dan and Sue Daniels bought the Long Horn property from the Kennedy's. They also collaborated six additional land purchases that make up the 314 acres that Hawk's View Golf Club encompasses. In 1998, Craig Schreiner, a Golf Course Architect from Kansas City, MO, was retained to begin plans for the 36-hole golf complex. Later that year, Landscapes Unlimited was hired as the General Contractor. Work on the golf courses began in July of 1999 with the courses completed in October of 2000. Bill Henry, of William Henry & Associates architectural firm in Elkhorn, WI, was hired as the building architect and also helped with the permitting process. Bill maintained the "lodge atmosphere," while at the same time giving Hawk's View a new functional building complete with pro shop, locker rooms, offices, indoor banquet space seating 330 people and a beautiful outdoor terrace overlooking the 18th green that seats 500 people.

In the summer of 2001, Hawk's View Golf Club opened, and is now recognized as one of the premier golf course facilities in the Midwest. We are the only 5 star rated course in the Lake Geneva area and rated in the top 25 new courses from Golf Magazine. In order to maintain this caliber, we continue to upgrade our facility by enhancing our property and services each and every year. It is our hope that dedication to this purpose will continue to result in increased golf and banquet bookings. We made beneficial improvements to hole #4, the bar and kitchen areas, as well as to our gardens. In addition, this year alone, we made two substantial clubhouse improvements. A revamped deli area adjacent to the Pro Shop will now enable golfers to grab a quick breakfast sandwich, snack, or drink prior to teeing off. Also recently installed is our new office space featuring a brand new conference center. Our efforts to further develop our facility will continue for many years to come. For example, we plan to build town homes on the outlying property areas in the near future. In 2006 and 2007 we continued the upgrading of Hawk’s View.  Some of the enhancements consist of a new fleet of state of the art golf cars.  We have built a new banquet kitchen that will enable us to do all of the catering at Hawk’s View.  New 50 inch plasma televisions in Tail Feather’s Bar and Grill look great.  Our grand double sided fireplace in Tail Feather’s which has a 40 inch plasma television mounted above the mantel for the enjoyment of all has been a great enhancement.   On the course we have built new tees on our 3rd hole and are upgrading equipment as well as resurfacing all of our tee boxes. Hawk's View continues to grow with the community and is definitely becoming an integral component of Lake Geneva history. Above all else, we will continue our commitment to excellence.
